Four Ways to Get More Out of Your Peer-to-peer Fundraising

There’s a lot going on in the world right now. From economic fluctuations to the upcoming U.S. presidential election, so many factors can impact the success of your peer-to-peer fundraising.

The good news is that there are tools and techniques you can put to work now to get more out of your peer-to-peer fundraising efforts. Here are four big ways to optimize your peer-to-peer fundraising:

1. Create unique experiences.
Peer-to-peer campaigns and events that really stand out do two things: They offer compelling experiences to participants and donors AND they connect participants and donors with the organization’s cause.

One great example is from Sinai Health Foundation. With their signature peer-to-peer event, Raptors for Research, the nonprofit partners with the Toronto Raptors, an NBA basketball team in Toronto, to host a three-on-three basketball tournament. Offering a unique opportunity to participants, this event saw about 75 teams participate this past year and raised about $750,000.

Another great example: The Army Benevolent Fund (ABF) created an innovative peer-to-peer fundraising campaign called Operation Bletchley. This campaign is a virtual codebreaking challenge that uses a theme based on Bletchley Park, the center of British intelligence during World War II. The campaign offers an immersive, digital experience that connects participants with the organization’s mission as the UK Army’s national charity.

2. Embrace mobile tools and tactics.
These days, our mobile devices are with us nearly all of the time. So, it just makes sense that your peer-to-peer fundraising should incorporate mobile tools and tactics.

Be sure to look at your peer-to-peer event and campaign experience from the standpoint of someone using a mobile device to register and fundraise for your organization, and make sure the process is user-friendly. Also, incorporate tools like mobile messaging, mobile payment options, and mobile apps to help participants fundraise.

3. Optimize your participant portal.
Your participant portal is the web page where your peer-to-peer participants manage their fundraising and find resources to help them support your campaign or event. Most peer-to-peer fundraising software products – such as Donor Drive, Engaging Networks, and TeamRaiser – offer some form of participant portal functionality.

Make sure you’ve optimized your participant portal to help your participants recruit team members, access resources that help them fundraise, ask for donations from their social network, and track progress toward their fundraising goal.

4. Improve check-in and event day processes.
Create a better event-day experience for your participants and your staff by streamlining your check-in and event-day processes. You can easily do this by putting modern event management technology to work.

For example, Grassroots Unwired integrates with peer-to-peer fundraising tools and offers a peer-to-peer event-day solution that allows you to check participants in online, track the number of participant check-ins, and manage event-day donations so that you always have the latest fundraising totals for handing out participant rewards.
