The Peer to Peer Fundraising Technology Landscape

As the Internet and technology have continued to evolve, peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns have become more sophisticated. At the same time, nonprofit software companies like Kintera, Convio, and Artez have come and gone, and some of the smart people there have since joined companies including Blackbaud and Frontstream that offer peer-to-peer tools, or have created new peer-to-peer tools like Great Feats and Kimbia — to name a few. Plus, nonprofit staffers, such as Jeff Gordy, former IT director at the Kidney Cancer Association, went on to co-found NeonCRM.

Today, there are so many peer-to-peer fundraising software platforms out there, presenting nonprofits with both more choice and the challenge of finding the right tool for their organization. That’s why we created The Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Technology Landscape — a guide that offers insight into today’s world of peer-to-peer tools.

We spoke with 18 companies / platforms and their clients, and spent many hours sitting through demos, reviewing software sandboxes, and clicking through campaigns to better understand each tool.  Our goal: to help you better understand the platforms available to you, and to narrow the list of tools so you can dig into demos, negotiate contracts, and find the tool that best supports your team, your participants, your donors and, most importantly, your mission.
